Our Justice System During This Critical Moment in History

As a candidate for a judicial office, you spend a lot of time being careful with your words. It is really important that you don’t violate the Judicial Canons or put yourself in a position where you would have to recuse yourself on an important issue that could come before the Court. As a result, you will find that judges and judicial candidates are usually silent when critical events occur in our nation.

This silence, however, should not be mistaken for a lack of care.  I stepped forward to run for office for many reasons, but I was hugely inspired by the work of Chief Justice McCormack, who is leading on important system work.  I believe our justice system can in fact be one important part of the solution as we tackle huge long-term challenges.

Our justice system must be fair for everyone, regardless of the color of your skin, how much money you have, where you live, or what your personal or religious beliefs are. I have spent my entire career working to that end, but we have so far to go.

I am committed to be a part of the solution. I am going to listen to the concerns of the Black community, and I will be an ally and an advocate for a fair justice system. Every man, woman, and child must be treated fairly under the law.
