On the Campaign Trail, May 1-31

May was another busy month on the campaign trail. Zoom meetings continue to be the best way to connect digitally with voters and supporters across the state. We are proud to have reached a significant milestone in the campaign with receiving the early endorsement by the Michigan Democratic Party. More and more people are connecting with our campaign and asking how they can help. There’s a definite excitement growing and we’re humbled and empowered by the energy!

Here are some highlights from this past month:

  • Elizabeth Welch, along with Chief Justice McCormack, received the endorsement of the Michigan Democratic Party for the two available seats on the Michigan Supreme Court. We appreciate the confidence in our campaign that the MDP endorsement represents, and we are ready to move on to the next phase in campaigning to bring justice to all people throughout Michigan. (Find out more about the process of party nomination for a non-partisan race in the blog post on the endorsement here.)
5-21 Fundraiser
  • The campaign held its first few virtual fundraisers this month. Although we would much prefer to meet with supporters in person at their homes on a beautiful spring evening, we are humbled by the support we have received and the people who are willing to spend time virtually with us. During these online gatherings, Elizabeth is able to explain the campaign and how supporters can help with her election. Fundraising is necessary to run a robust statewide campaign. • We attended 23 virtual meetings/events this month, connecting with people all across the state. Virtual meetings allow us to attend several gatherings in one night, from one part of the state to the next, with only a minute’s commute. We covered virtual ground from Menominee County in the UP to Oceana and Mason Counties on Lake Michigan, from Alcona, Macomb, and Oakland Counties to the East to Clare and Roscommon Counties in the middle of the state. The Fems for Dems virtual Candidate Speed Dating event was an especially unique way to reach voters. The event was recorded and you can view it here.
Employment Law
  • The topic of COVID-19 and employment continues to be front and center in the lives of all Americans, including Michiganders. Elizabeth is working hard to learn the new laws and is sharing her expertise in employment law by communicating in easy-to-understand terms the Governor’s executive orders and how they impact employers and employees.
